this looks great (your new blog). i have a sample of anne pliska and it reminds me a little (strangely enough) of cinnabar from estee lauder...pliska is a stellar perfume in its own right nevertheless...look forward to following your new blog.

Hi Victoria,

Thanks to you, Anne Pliska is one of my favorite perfumes. I have never smelled anything like it. I'll be purchasing another bottle soon. My current is almost empty. This will be the only perfume that I have ever used the whole bottle of it's contents.

Art History was my major in college, but I was girl interupted, and never got my degree. Maybe when I retire I will take the rest of the required classes.

Thank you for stopping by and your kind words. I know you will love Anne Pliska. It is a very sophisticated amber fragrance.

Vic was kind enough to send me a sample vial a few years ago. I've purchased two bottles of the edt and a 1/4 oz. of the parfum (not all at once, mind you!). It absolutely knocked me off my feet. I've owned over 60 fragrances in my life, and my husband loves Anne Pliska as much as I do. It is my all-time favorite.

I will forever be grateful to Vic!

Vic,

I do have some questions for you:

How much do you recommend applying AP for an evening out? Wear to YOU dab it on? How long would you say the staying power is?

I've never had the courage to wear it to work, but want to. What do you suggest? Jeannemarie Auclair Regan

Blogger Victoria said...

Well for wearing out for the evening, I spray about 2 times on my neck and once on each arm. Then I usually spray a cotton ball and tuck that in my bra.
:O)

If I am just wearing parfum, (but I usually layer), I dab once on each wrist, behind each ear, and on my cleavage. :O)

As for wearing to work ... just do it! 3-4 sprays uner clothing and you should be fine.

Blogger Victoria said...

Susan, I bet you end up liking it better than all of those. :O)
Let me know what you think. Anne Pliska is one that really should be sprayed though, to be tested properly. Yet I still think you will be pleased.

I have been using Anne Pliska for over 10 years. I am stopped by men and women when I wear it and they ask me what it is and where can they get it. It smells that good. A little goes a long way. It is very powerful scent on the libito, so be careful and responsible with it. My husband loves it. He knows what it means when he smells it on me, if you know what I mean. He loves it so much that he makes sure that I have never ran out since we have been married. It is the only fragrance I own since I discovered it. I am highly sensitive to fragrances and I can where this one without any problems or sneezing.

P.S. Only West Coast Nordstrom's carry it. They don't carry it on the East Coast because it is from Beverly Hills I guess. When I was in the D.C. Nordstrom's people were asking for it and it was unavailable. To bad. Nordstom's is missing out on sales and Easterners are missing out on a wonderful gift. Buy it on line if you live in the East.

I agree about the East Coast people missing out - but now they can buy from Nordstrom online!

My mom gave me Anne Pliska perfume and lotion when I was in collge 1986. I was a waitress and have never rec'd so many compliments from men and women about the scent! Then it disappeared and I have done many searches since then and found it 2 years ago..Yeah!! It is the only thing I wear and is my very own signatures scent as I live in a small town and no one else knows where to find it:)

One of the owners of Luscious Cargo suggested this scent to me so I asked her to include a sample in my next order from them. It is everything that you say it is. I've finished the sample and am longing for more so I'm about to place an order with Luscious Cargo since I may not have found out about it if it hadn't been for them! Any suggestions for other perfumes from their site that I might want to try? I love Narciso Rodriguez for Her, Lolita Lempicka, Musc Ravageur, Issey Miyaki, D&G's Sicily. Have just recently discovered your site and I love it! Thanks Victoria! Nancy

Ok, I received the Anne Pliska eau de parfum and the body lotion and I cannot get enough of this scent! I found the body powder on ebay from Hard to Find Fragrances but they charge an arm and a leg for their products! Luscious Cargo has been so wonderful to deal with...I love the free samples of your choice because they are generous samples! I love that there is no sales tax so it works out slightly better for me to order from them. I'm going to request that they get the body powder and anything else they can get their hands on that Anne Pliska makes. It's funny because some of the women on Makeup Alley thought it smelled like Shalimar. I have Shalimar and their new light version and I just don't think they are much alike. I wonder if it's just me. I would suggest this to anyone who wants to try something really different. You can order samples from Luscious Cargo.com.

Hi Nancy,
Yes, I have heard it compared to Shalimar but I don't get Shalimar either. In fact I don't like Shalimar. Many Guerlains, but not that one. :O) I'm very happy you love Anne Pliska as much as I do, thank you for your comments.

It looks like my post never sent, so here goes again. I wanted to find out if you know anywhere I can find samples of those fragrances from your main blog, the Anne Pliska, 100% Love and Chinatown. I know how you feel about Anne Pliska, because I felt that way about Victoria, from Victoria's secret. It was my favorite, my signature. When I wore it I felt better, more ME! And now it has been discontinued for years, and I have yet to find anything to take it place. I've never smelled another fragrance that had any of the same notes. And I unfortunately don't know all the notes. When I read your blog, I knew I had to find those 3 perfumes, especially the Anne Pliska, because your passion for that scent almost rivals mine for Victoria. I say almost, because sadly, I really can't wear anything else since that I don't end up tired of after a short time. I looked for those 3 perfumes at my local Sephora, and they didn't carry any for me to sample. Do you have any suggestions!?
I would love to find something that I can feel that great about.
My regular email is sharina_106@yahoo.com

Hi Tina,
Well I understand how sad you must be to have your favorite discontinued. Even though my name is Victoria, I tired it hoping I would love it and it wasn't for me.

What I have done for you is looked up a few things for you in Michael Edwards' Fragrances of The World Book. This book is a great reference that shows the category and similar scents. Victoria is a FLORAL ORIENTAL. And within this category it is considered a "classical floral oriental". Here are a few others in the same category:

Bal A Versailles
Boucheron
Herve Leger
Oscar by Oscar De Larenta
Parfum Scare - Caron
Poem - Lancome
Sicily - Dolce & Gabbana

In my opinion of these I would try Boucheron first. If you have not already. It even has the same blue and gold attractive packaging. :O)

Anne Pliska is in the next category over - SOFT ORIENTAL. So it is still in the same family being Oriental. But Anne Pliska is more amber and less floral.

So you may love it too.
:O)

Hi Victoria. Just thought I'd drop a note to you and let you know I purchased the Anne Pliska...love it...although it is close to Prada to my nose, I detect a much softer and somewhat sweeter note, much more feminine than the Prada. My only complaint: I hate the plastic top on the bottle! The bottle is lovely, the perfume color is lovely, but that cap! It would be nice to have a classier cap on such a lovely scent.

I have used nothing else since I met you in the Santa Ana Main Place Mall in the early 80's. Today it was impossible to find I went to Nordstroms, in Santa Ana, Calif. and they were out of Parfum but did have one creme in a tube on hand, the beauty consultant was kind enough to call 4 other stores in Orange County and all were are out of it! This is bad for you at Holiday times.

Calling the toll free number is the way to go especially with the gift with purchase on now!

Unfortunately Nordstrom is dropping the line and at Christmas no less. Apparently many of the sales associates haven't been informed.

A lot of people are going to be upset when they find out. I urge all to make a formal complain to Nordstrom. It makes no sense after 21 years of consistent sales!

i found anne pliska in 2000 among a few samples i'd received from the tacoma mall nordstrom's in tacoma, washington. i've been told from their fragrance people that this fragrance is made exclusively for the tacoma mall store, but that it could also be purchased online. unfortunately, i've not been able to find it online with nordstroms, but it's so worth the drive to the mall to get it, even though i hate driving in tacoma's traffic. i happen to be sitting next to a gentleman once at a function i was attending and he insisted on knowing the name of and where he could purchase it for xmas presents for the women in his office, he wanted to breath the fragrance all day long. i would've passed it off as a cheesey pick-up line if i hadn't, over the years, had sooo many compliments on this fragrance from men and women alike, including most of the people around me at that particular table. it's a very sexy, sultry, powdery soft fragrance, i find myself breathing in more deeply when i'm wearing it, also. it may be a bit pricey, but a little goes a long way and it has yummy staying power!! when a woman finds a fragrance that is worthy enough to be her 'signature', and strangers from both sexes are telling you how good you smell and want to know what it is and where they can buy it, all the while audibly inhaling you, hey what's a few bucks?!

There is a guy on ebay that is selling Anne's fragrance at huge mark-up. He also has things listed that I have never seen in Anne's product line up, such as shower gel. His "store" name is Hard To Find Fragrances and his user name is "estrada4051" I detest seeing people being ripped off, when I think everyone should be able to experience this wonderful scent!

11:43 AM
Blogger Victoria said...

Hi, yes thanks for writing. I am aware of him and his exorbitant prices. But the products he has I believe are genuine. They are older products which are now discontinued. I would be very concerned with the body lotion which was discontinued primarily because it did break down and did not have a long shelf life. I have had original creme go bad too.

However the powder may still be fine, and really is a treat. And worth the price if for a special present or as I said, a special treat.

I hate that he is so overpriced and that some people are buying parfum, EDP and creme there, when they can get it fresh direct from Anne Pliska.

Thanks again for your mail.

I walked into a restaurant in 1984, and was stunned by a wonderful smell. I got the nerve to ask the woman what she was wearing---you know the rest! I have been devoted ever since. I love the scent, and have shared it with others over the years. Thank goodness Nordstrom's still sells it, or it is hard to come by!!

I've been wearing Anne Pliska for more than 20 years. It's a lovely scent and lasts well. I've never had anyone complain about an alergic reaction and would highly recommend it.

I work in a well-known think tank. We recently had an on-site meeting of many of our top donors. One of the donors turned up at my office and asked if I was the person with the marvelous perfume. He had apparently been going around discreetly sniffing to track it down. I gave him the information and he happily went off.

It really is too bad I can't get it at Nordstrom's any more. Every so often I stop by the cosmetic counter and ask for it. When they tell me it's no longer available, I tell them I'm not interested in anything else. I know they don't carry it, but I like to remind them I'm still interested.

I fell in love with the scent of Anne Pliska years ago. For awhile, I couldn't find it for purchase anywhere and literally longed to be lost in the heavenly smell once again. Funny how my brain knew what I wanted to smell, but nothing passed my nose that could quench the longing. Ahh....but by God's grace, I found your lovely scent at The Perfume House in Portland, Oregon. A charming store selling a charming fragrance! Anne Pliska is, to this day, one of the ONLY perfumes that I will wear. I am very particular to scents and this one is timeless. As some others have said, I, too, get stopped by strangers (men and women alike) commenting on how great I smell while wearing Anne Pliska. Thank you for providing such a gorgeous fragrance....you make the world smell better!!!!

I have used this perfume since the 90's when Nordstrom started carring it. I love it - I don't want to share my scent with anyone! :-) It's the best and after wearing it for over a decade, a friend who I haven't seen in nearly that long - we met up last week and she said, "YOU SMELL THE SAME AS YOU ALWAYS DID!" I took that as a compliment. :-)

I used to wear Anne Pliska many years ago, but when I ran out I couldn't find it anywhere. I used to sell at (showing my age here) Hudsons, then I coldn't find it anywhere. I called the number on the box and spoke with Anne herself! She told me she started this frangrance in her garage and took it off the shelfs of major department stores because she wanted a fragrance that was unique to every woman. She was spot on! I smelled this fragrance on a woman at work. I could tell it was Anne, but it smelled just a bit different on her than it did on me! I love this scent and was almost ready to pay the $250 on ebay, but I just can't afford it. I also love the dusting powder...it came with the softest dusting brush way back when. I am definitely ordering from you! Thank you!
